What is the Women of Welcome Ministry?

Basically, you are volunteering to visit and welcome any new female member who has joined the church the Sunday before your scheduled week. You will present them with a gift bag and share information about the Women’s Ministry. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to help women feel connected and to make new friends in Christ.

How much time is required?

Volunteers serve on a rotating basis. Currently, with the number of volunteers in the program, you will be assigned one to two weeks every four to six months. No one will be asked to visit more than four ladies during her scheduled week. You may also be called upon when a scheduled volunteer is unable to serve on her week or when BHBC has more than four ladies join on any given Sunday.

Where do we visit with new members?

We strongly encourage you to meet with the ladies in their homes. We feel this provides an intimate, one-on-one, comfortable setting for them that is very important. However, in the event that a home visit is not possible, visits may be made elsewhere. Some ladies prefer to meet at a local coffee shop or restaurant. Others prefer to meet at the church. (Above the Welcome Center is a good location on a Sunday morning or on Wednesday evening.)

On my scheduled week, how will I get the names of those women I need to visit?

By Tuesday evening of your week, you will receive a telephone call or e-mail from the director with the names, addresses and phone numbers of the ladies who joined the previous Sunday. You will also be notified if there are no visits to be made.

What happens if I am unable to visit on my scheduled week or on a particular day of that week?

You should contact the WOW Ministry Director as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made. This is very important to ensure that every lady receives a visit!

What if I forget my week?

Several days before your scheduled week, you will receive a call from the director to remind you that it is your week to visit.

Do I need any supplies? If so, where do I get them?

Yes. You will receive a gift supply kit from your director. Each kit contains blank note cards, Visitation Record Postcards (stamped) and the necessary items for four gift bags. (Assembling each bag should take no more than five minutes.)

What items are put in the gift bags?

The Women’s Ministry booklet, Journey Devotional, church library card request form, writing pen with church’s logo, magnetic notepad, photo frame magnet, kleenex, bookmark with pin and candy, etc…

What are my duties?

  • On your scheduled week, check your e-mail to see who needs to be visited.
  • Call these ladies as soon as possible during the week to welcome them and to set up a time to deliver the gift bag.
  • Prepare the gift bag for the visit.
  • Take a moment to write a personal note to each lady (on a blank note card provided in the supply kit) and include in the gift bag.
  • Pray before each visit asking the Lord to help you encourage the new lady member and to make her feel welcome.
  • Call the new member immediately before meeting her to confirm your appointment.
  • Deliver the gift bag to the new member. (Reviewing the Women’s Ministry booklet with these ladies is a great way to share the opportunities available in this ministry. Let them know that names and phone numbers are included in the booklet should they have any questions.)
  • After each visit, complete a Visitation Record Postcard which is provided in your supply kit. At the end of your scheduled week, mail all stamped postcards to the director.
